History at your fingertips spread across three floors in the Latin Quarter of Galway City. The Galway City Museum houses exciting exhibitions of archaeology, the history and sea science of Galway.
The museum stands as one of the city’s most popular tourist hotspots and has the pleasure of welcoming over 200,000 visitors annually.
With exhibitions including Galway & The Great War, which covers the city’s involvement in the Great war, from 1914 to 1918, a time that shook the small fishing village known as the Claddagh. For the young scientist within, the Sea Science exhibition explores the marine life found along the Galway coast with fun and informative displays which is a must-see for young visitors.
There are over 1000 objects in the collection currently, most of which have been kindly donated by the people of Galway over the past 40 years. Part of the collection is on display and you will see it as you navigate through the museum.
